One step in and you fall into the calming embrace of this fab fisherman’s cottage. Less is more here – the owners have realised that the incredible view is the star of the show here so have chosen a subtle luxurious style within the property.
Rooms and Facilities
Main Front Room
The main living space stretches the whole width of the house with two large sash windows with picture-perfect views of the harbour. As you walk through the front door, you’ll find a plush velvet sofa, huge fur beanbag chair, throws and a cosy wood burner to the left. The window seat has cute hessian cushions, and the room is well stocked with wood for cold nights. Unusual lighting throughout provide focal points within the room. On the right, an eye-catching dining table with benches stretch across the room, and a small enclave thoughtfully houses a toaster, so you don’t even have to go into the kitchen to make toast for your breakfast!
Kitchen + Dining
A stone step leads you to the back of the house which is home to the kitchen, where the main feature is the original wrought-iron Cornish range, beautifully preserved. The kitchen itself is stylishly monochrome, with a 50’s style Gorenje fridge freezer, five ring stove, Victorian sink, Cornish black slate worktops and stunning rectangular tiles. A washing machine and dishwasher and tucked away too. Another fab feature of the kitchen is the industrial chains which support rough wooden shelves well stocked with white china and glasses. An original butcher’s block completes the room.
3 x Bedrooms
Plush thick carpets lead you up the stairs where you’ll find two double rooms, one of which is ensuite, and the children’s room. The two double rooms have harbour views and window seats, perfect for watching the world go by with a morning cup of coffee. A unique feature of all the front windows of this property is that they have ‘upside down’ blinds, meaning they roll from the bottom up – this means you can still have the views with a little more privacy! The children’s room houses two single beds and a sky light lets in plenty of natural daylight. It has a wall mounted TV for when a bit of downtime is needed.
Main Bathroom + Shower
The upstairs bathroom will take you back to your school days as the owners have cleverly used old desks as shelving for the two sinks – complete with graffiti! The sinks are at two levels – the lower one thoughtfully positioned for little ones. Unique reclaimed tiles make the flooring very eye-catching. The master bedroom has a small shower room with an ‘amoosing’ theme – check out the tiled cow portrait! Oh, and just in case you come back a bit sandy from the beach, there’s an outside shower in the cobbled courtyard.

Places of Interest & History
Lying between Penzance and Land’s End, Mousehole is one of the most iconic fishing villages in Cornwall. Huddling the coastline and protected by Raginnis Hill, it’s also one of the oldest with parts of the harbour wall dating back to the twelfth century. Today the village maintains its olde-worlde charm, with narrow cobbled streets, slate roofs, whitewashed cottages and brightly coloured paint work. It’s perfect for foodies with a good selection of restaurants, cafés and delis, and is of course just a hop, skip and a jump to the world-famous fishing village of Newlyn!
The horseshoe beach is nicely protected by harbour walls which almost meet – literally the ‘mouse hole’ – creating a perfect spot for soaking up the Cornish sun – it’s a real sun trap! There’s plenty going on throughout the year here, but perhaps the most famous are the harbour lights at Christmas when hundreds of people come to see the spectacular display.
Reviews
“Beautiful Berlewen…Mousehole”
Berlewen…such a beautiful holiday retreat!…the design and interiors were absolutely stunning and the luxurious soft furnishings were a real treat! The views from Berlewen were absolutely fantastic, without doubt the best harbour views in Mousehole. It really made the holiday to wake up to these dreamy picturesque views every morning. The owners of Berlewen were so very kind in welcoming us with a delicious food and drink hamper. They were so thoughtful in leaving some toys and putting a teddy in the bed for our little boy to make him feel at home!It was lovely when they called to introduce themselves and genuinely wanted to know if we had everything we needed at the house. We loved every minute…we will definitely return to Beautiful Berlewen…such a very special cottage!
Kathryn D“Wonderfully located beautiful harbour house.”
We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely house overlooking the harbour. On arrival we were welcomed with a platter of food and drink. The house is beautifully designed and well equipped. It is well maintained by the owners, clean and modern whilst enjoying traditional features. There are a number of great cafes, restaurants and pubs all within walking distance. The coastal path is easily accessed from Mousehole as is walking along to the fishing town of Newlyn. We felt well looked after by the owners throughout our stay and are already looking forward to a return visit. We would definitely recommend the house and location to friends and relatives.
Anni TAbout The Owners
Tristan Hugh-Jones has lived in the area since 1981. After a time away working, married Vickie, and has now returned to West Penwith. With a family of 4 children, we have always loved Mousehole, with its sheltered harbour and amazing views.
Tristan and Vickie Hugh-Jones purchased this house in 2013
Why Tristan and Vickie Hugh-Jones chose South West Cornwall
This property is one of the few south facing properties in Mousehole, and is right on the harbour edge. The view from the dining and living room are superb over the harbour, and the two front bedroooms have the same view. The views of the Mousehole Christmas lights are superb also.
What makes this house unique
The property was bought in 2013 and has undergone some major improvements through 2014 and 2015. It has a large open plan dining and living area, and a large spacious kitchen to the back of the house. It even has an outside shower, for those days when you come straight in from the sandy beach below.
